“God, I’m tired.”

Do you wake up every day feeling tired before your feet hit the floor? Do you respond back to customers/family/friends/spouse with bitterness with no explanation as to why? Do you feel as if you’ve lost your passion for what you use to be passionate about? Do you feel as if all the motivation you once had, is lost?

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:28-29

But those who hope in the Lordwill renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. – Mark 6:31

If all of the questions above could be answered with a single reason, you are tired. We have all felt this way at certain times in our lives, but maybe the season you’re in right now is different from before. You feel the pressure of waking up every day, responding to people, losing your passion, and having no motivation, all at once. Every single day. Right now. Often it is hard to distinguish why we are so overwhelmed in all these areas of our lives, when honestly, we’re just tired. We’re all guilty of saying, “School just isn’t for me anymore.” Maybe you’re just tired. “I’m tired of my job.” Maybe you’re just tired. “I’m tired of being married.” Maybe you’re just tired. “My kids are driving me crazy.” Maybe you’re just tired.

It is easy to make an excuse to our “tiredness” by placing the reason for being tired on something else, rather than being honest and saying, “I haven’t taken time to rest.” If you neglect yourself from resting, you will not be yourself, you will dread getting up every morning, your relationships will suffer, you will lose your passion for what you love, and your motivation will be gone, simply because your strength is gone. God needs you at your best. He doesn’t need you Googling other jobs because you’re thinking you’re tired of your job, when really you’re right where He wants you. You’re just tired and in need of rest. He doesn’t need your mind wandering on other men/women or thinking about divorce because you’re thinking you’re tired of your spouse, when really you’re just tired.

When we are tired, our mind is foggy, but something as simple as rest can make it clear. Rest in God. Tell Him, “God, I’m tired. Help me to rest. I’m tired of being tired. I want to feel good again. I want to be a pleasant person to be around. I want my passion and motivation back. Help me to rest so I can fulfill my purpose in you and not go astray.” Don’t let something as “fixable” as being tired, steal your joy. Often, our problems come with “not so simple fixes.” But being tired is something you can fix. Take a moment to rest. God will help you. He will support your need of rest. Let Him be your Father and rest in His lap.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. – Isaiah 40:29
