Verses that Christian’s do not like:

Verses that Christian’s do not like:
1. “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your sins. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.” Mark 11:26
Excuse: God, you do not understand how bad he/she hurt me. I will always hold that against them.

2. “Make an offering of ten percent, a tithe, of all the produce which grows in your fields year after year.” Deuteronomy 14:22
Excuse: God, my check was only $300, I need that $30, that’s a whole tank of gas.

3. “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immortality that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
Excuse: God, marriage is just a piece of paper. A piece of paper shouldn’t define what I’m allowed to do or not.

4. “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.” Leviticus 18:22

Excuse: God, they can’t help who they fall in love with.

  • Why do we as Christian’s not like these verses? Why are they not preached about in churches? Why do Christians follow some parts of the Bible, but live as if other parts do not exist? Why do we expect God to bless us when we pick and choose what commands we want to follow or not?
  • Obeying the commands in these verses are not “easy.” It’s not easy to forgive someone who has hurt you. It’s not easy to give 10% when you don’t feel as if you can even sacrifice a dollar. It’s not easy to avoid the natural sexual hormones humans have before marriage. It’s not easy to disagree with someone saying they truly love someone who’s their same gender.
  • We as humans like exceptions to the rules, but that is not how obeying God’s commands work. These verses may seem difficult, controversial, and maybe even impossible. But if you are a Christian who lives by the Word of God, what more do you need besides his Word alone?
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”– Luke 11:28
